It has been a while!

I've been meaning to post to my blog for ages, but in the past 10 months have not got around to doing it, until now. After blogging every day for the period that I did, I started to feel like it was becoming a chore. I don't like chores, so I thought I would have a rest from it. I didn't really intend to stop totally for this long, but rather blog quite often rather than every day. That is what I'm going to do now I think.

What have I been doing in the time I've not posted. Quite a lot, all the usual things really. In Januray I was over in Las Vegas for CES, AEE, the AVN Awards and a few other things which was great fun. Coming up in April I'm off to Austria for Snowbombing 2006 which is going to be good.

There has been a lot happening around the world, which is nothing out of the normal though, but it seems there have been some interesting things going on, which will spark some good discussions, finding out the thoughts and opinions of various people. I had an idea of posting about a wider range of topics to see what other people think, so look out for some posts and have your say. Just don't count on when I might start doing that, it could be another year, but I hope not. Hopefully more to come soon!

Ben has not been posting much either, I think he felt the same as I did, combined with other things like being busy, so I'm not the only one.

Mind block

For some reason at the moment, I have some kind of mind block going on. I'm not sure why, but I know I'd like to loose it. I think it is down to the amount of things I have going on at the moment but I could be wrong. Lack of sleep is probably playing some role and also other things. Spending most of our lives at work just does not appear to be healthy for us or not for me at least. Life is meant for living, I think it's about time things changed so we get chance to actually live!

Homelands 2005

Today is Homelands, something I was meant to be going to but this year I'm not going it now seems. I'd still go but it's not as much fun going by yourself and the people I was meant to be going with have now decided they can't make it. That is really annoying at the best of time, especially when it is a rubbish excuse. Some people are starting to get a reputation for being unreliable!

I've been the past 3 years so I don't mind taking a break from that festival but it's still annoying when I wanted to and was planning to go! There is still a lot more to come this summer, Homelands is just the start, so it's not all bad, providing that people don't continue to make up excuses. I'll be going out anyway, just around London instead!

I can't get my postal mail very easily

I don't have the keys for the box to gain access to any mail that has been sent, which is a bit of a problem. I have managed to get some of the mail that was in there out but there is still some inside. I have ordered some replacement keys but they have not come yet or they have already been posted in the box which means I'd have to order another one.

I have let the appropriate people know, so hopefully when the keys come they won't be posted but rather left at the management office as I have requested. Sometimes it is the most simple of things that can cause the most problems!

Transport

It is actually quicker for me to get to work now, after moving to the new place. It'll be a lot shorter soon as I have sorted the car out so travel time to work will soon not really be an issue!

Business projects

Work on the business projects is moving along and at the moment I'm finding that there are not enough hours in the day to fit everything in. I'll be sorting out a car shortly so I'll be spending less time on travel, which is good and about time. That will give me some time back or a night especially, to relax and work on business related tasks.

It shouldn't be much longer before some of the projects will be revealed and launched, so watch this space.

Moved in

I've moed all of my things that I had with me down here over to the new place, it was quite a mission without using a car, I should have got someone to come down and help with a car to put everything in, but I managed.

At some point I'll bring some more of my things down from home, once I've sorted out what I want to bring so I have it available all of the time and what can stay up at home. I'm feeling better already now it's all sorted.

Read the small print

It's always good to read the small print when you are going to sign a contract for a new service. You may remember the problems that the Smile bank gives you if you don't pay in a certain amount of money per month. They asked me if there is anything they could do to ensure I do not close my account and I stated that having to pay in a certain amount of money is something that seems to only be enforced by Smile and shoiuld be changed.

Of course if I had of read the conditions I would have known about that requirement and probably would have not bothered opening an account. That kind of requirement is just something I have not heard of before but there is a first time for everything.

Quiet week

This week is going to be a lot less busy at work for me, so I might get chance to catch up on things. I'm just looking forward to making the move as I have been saying quite a lot recently. I've got a load of reading to do as I've got behind with things.

MTV TRL

I went on the MTV Total Request Live show last night, which is live on MTV coming direct from the studio at Leicester Square. Up until they were announced, I was not sure who the two guests for the show were going to be, but it turned out to be David Hasslehoff and Daryl Hannah. I grew up watching Nightrider and also Baywatch so it was good to be up close to him!

Daryl Hannah, the actress was also on the show. She is taking part in the Gumball 3000 rally, which starts in London later today. The private party was last night and I managed to gain entry, which was great because I got to see Jamiroquai again for the second time in a week and both times for free. Last night was much better though as it was a club environment and everyone was having a good time.

The show last week, not many people were even dancing, but it was not bad. Considering the amount of people outside, we did well to get in as it was an event for people taking part in the rally this year and invited guests, we enjoyed walking down the red carpet and the free drinks from the bar too which was a nice addition to all of the wine we'd had earlier in the day. There were hundreds of people outside, loads inside and also quite a lot of known faces!

After the party, we headed to the Hagen Daas store and had some nice deserts as well as a nice coffee. Not bad for 2am and the place has music and nice seats, very nice!

After that, we headed back for some sleep and I've not long been awake and now going to get ready and head back to check out all of the cars that are on show and taking part in Gumball 3000 2005.

Oh my gosh

The builders came last weekend on the Saturday to do some work, yet I was not informed so they went away because there was someone in the room. They are saying they want payment when they didn't do any work, which is funny! What is even more funny is that this crazy female I've been talking about recently, is going to pay them and seems to think it is my fault.

Sorry, but her lack of communication is the problem. It's my fault because they came before on a Saturday, that I should have assumed they would be coming. Sorry, for one I don't assume too often, it's not good practice. Also, it's not my job to inform her what I am doing, it is her job to inform us what is happening when people need access to the rooms we are staying in.

She told the other guy who stays at the house, yet forgot to tell me. It's not the first time this has happened. I've had enough with it, she really needs to get a grip. If she treats everyone who moves in the way she has treated us, people certainly won't be staying here long. We need her less than she needs us, obviously she hasn't got the grasp of that fact yet.

So close yet so far

It's not long until I move now and once that is sorted and I get proper Internet access I'll actually be able to browse the Internet again at night, without getting annoyed at how slow it is. If the person here had kept their promises and sorted it here, it would not be a problem but she is full of rubbish. Putting up silly notes to tell us not to use leave the taps running because she is over her estimated water bill. Unless they know how many people are living here, which I doubt, they can't even estimate properly.

She also turns the heating off, which means the house is cold most of the time. Considering we pay rent, we don't have to put up with things like that, hence one of the reasons I have had enough and am geting out of here!

She also is under the impression that the tap in sink can let out 5 litres of water a second, what planet is she living on? That is two and a half normal size bottles of soft drink every second which is impossible considering the size of the pipes.

Contract signed

The contract for the new apartment has been signed, in part but the rest of it will be sorted tomorrow. There are a few bits that need to be sorted out, so they will be done tomorrow.

Not long to go now, I really can't wait to move. I've had three months of being in an awkward accomodation situation, to say the least. I've learned from it so it's not all that bad, but I certainly won't be rushing to live the experience again!

So busy

I'm busy with loads of things at the moment and have not had time to catch up with certain things. The good news is that everything is nearly sorted with the new place, just got to get a few things changed with the contract and then sign. Once that is done, we can get the keys, the date is set for the 21st of May.

I can't wait. It will mean I can sort out some proper Internet access down here and also have a place that is actually warm. The place I am staying at now is cold most of the time as the female owner who also lives there, is a bit a character and doesn't like spending any money, obviously.

Time for bed

Well, I've been up for fourty hours, so I think it is time for bed. You really do appreciate being able to sleep when you are tired and it is a lot easier to sleep, I could probably sleep with my head right next to a speaker banging out some quality tunes, right now!

Jamiroquai

I'm off to see Jamiroquai live tomorrow, which should be good and tonight I'm going to see Steve Lawler play some quality tunes for three hours as well as Hybrid and more. I've been up since 7am and no doubt it is going to be a late one tonight. I've also decided to go and do some work tomorrow, so I'll probably be going back, having a shower and then going straight back out. Afterwards I'll be going to see Jamiroquai then go back home after that. I'm used to being awake for ages but it's nice to aviod it when possible!

Moving along

I'm just waiting to hear back about the property that I'm hopefully going to be moving to, but it's looking likely that within the next two weeks the date of being able to move in will arrive.

Then I can sort out a decent Internet connection, instead of being forced to use GPRS as I have to at the moment, when I'm not at work or back at my real home. Fingers crossed, but it's all looking good!

More properties

I've been to view a number of other properties today and have put in an offer on one of them, to rent the place out. It's in the hands of the owner, but hopefully it'll be accepted and things can move forward. I'll hope so, as I really need to get out of the current place I stay at during the week, for various reasons.

I think one lesson I have learnt is not to live at a property where you are renting a room if the owner is living there too, unless they are yours freiends or family. If not, it can cause more problems than good, depending on what they are like. In my current case, things just get worse by the day!

You know the summer is coming when...

I know the summer is coming when the bank holidays start appearing. There are quite a few bunched together over the next few months and the first one is today. The rest are a little later when the weather is hopefully better and the long weekends can be used to their full advantage.

It's also about time to start planning some holidays for this year, but I'll need a decent calendar to help with that issue!

So much going on

I've got a lot of things going on at the moment, so have had less time to do things normally do have time for. I've been looking for a decent web based calendar to use, but the ones I have seen have not really had any exceptional functionality to make me want to use them but I'll have to test a few out some more and then start using one, it'll allow me to plan time a lot better!

Nice lunch, but wasted

After having a nice Italian lunch yesterday before viewing some properties around London, I went out on the night and after drinking quite a lot of cocktails I decided it would be better if I was sick rather than feeling sick for longer than required. It was a waste of the nice lunch that I had, but not to worry. I've been back home for a while now and I'm not feeling too bad!

I was out on Thursday night in London, went to an Arabic restaurant that I have been to before and then after went to some bars but took it slightly easier than I did last night.

It's all good fun!

Property viewing

I manged to check out a few properties earlier, but a lot will have to wait until next week as some of them are not available for viewing at the weekend. I've got quite a list to check out, so something should be located shortly that is ideal. For now at least, it's time to go out!

Spread the love

Spread the love, not bugs. I've got a cold at the moment, I'm not feeling that good but as always just get on with it. Hopefully it'll not last too long, as it's really annoying being all blocked up one minute and then not the next. It should start getting warm soon, so it's not all bad. When people are ill though, most don't feel like doing anything. I don't blame them!

Renting property in London

Of course renting property is dead money and I want to do it for as short a time as possible. I'm looking at moveing location, so that I'm in a new property that is closer to central London, which means it's a lot easier to go out all night and get back both during the week and at weekends.

Property prices are usually on the increase and I'll hopefully be able to invest in buying somewhere at some point, but for various reasons at the moment I'll be renting. The selection of properties available is vast but they all have one thing in common and that is the prices!

When people want to be as central as possible and living in a nice property people will be prepared to pay more but even looking at what is available, I've found that in London most of the properties, even the rubbish ones, have high rental charges. Most people have known it for a long time, but in most places property is worth investing in if you have the available funds.

Hot Import Nights London

I'm heading to HIN UK later today, to check out some nice modified cars and meet up with some nice models. It should be a good event, although smaller in comparison to some of the other modified car shows. It is all inside too so the weather will not cause any problems.

Trying to order food via the phone

I've been trying to order some food to be delivered. All of the leaflets that I have here must be out of date because most of the ones I have tried don't answer. One place I called I could not understand what the person was saying and another one who answered stated they they are closed on a Sunday and don't do delivery.

Even though I wanted some food, I quickly decided to save the cash and not bother. I then proceeded to ponder over the reason why I didn't bother stopping off at the shops on the way back from work to pick some things up.

It's time to get some supplies in, something which I am used to having back back up at home.

Long night

I've been in bed all day, makes a change lately but I needed it after getting back this morning after 8am. It's all good fun. I'm still waiting on the ADSL pipe to be activated, I'll have to chase that up as it's starting to get really frustrating with the amount of time it takes to browse and download anything.

I'll be able to catch up on a load of stuff then, as at the moment it's just not worth even trying to browse too much!

It must be bad luck!

After the bad luck on Thursday night, there were problems with the plan of events last night out in London too. After changing plans to head to another club for the night or for a while before heading to Turnmills, I wish I had not bothered. It was the Sunday Sport party at 10 Room that I was planned to visit, but after being told it was too full even though we were down on the list, combined with the fact they wanted to also charge people to get in now, I didn't bother going in.

I still could have made it to the Gallery night at Turnmills but instead I had some drinks at some other places and then went back to the house. Some people I knew that actually made it inside, said it was rubbish anyway so I didn't miss out on anything. I'm just annoyed becuase I missed out on a good night at Turnmills. I could have still gone but after the waiting around earlier at 10 Room, I was now freezing and could not be bothered trying to get over to Turnmills, especially since it was late and I didn't know if I would be able to get in as it was near 3am!

I'm not doing anything tonight, I've come back to visit the family. I'll certainly be making up for all the trouble this weekend, next weekend!

Last night

I went out in London last night, looking forward to attending a good night at The Big Chill Bar, only to find that it was invite only. Now if only I had of checked, I would have known that. I'll learn from it, normally I ould check but since it's a bar I didn't think it would be a problem. It was a good night anyway, we went to some other bars, but it was still annoying that we had been looking forward to it and had made the effort only to be unable to get in.

Home sweet home

I'm back home again now, I came back last night after taking a slight diversion to a local pub and drinking a few drinks. Tonight I'll be off to Godskitchen for the Bedrock event to see John Digweed play some quality tunes. No doubt I'll be in bed most of tomorrow and then head back to London. It'll be a quick weekend or seem like it anyway.

Got the keys

The keys have arrived, so I'll be able to sleep in a bed once again tonight which I shall be looking forward to. I'm glad too as I'm going out in London tonight so although it would not be too much of an issue as I have everything I need in my bag that is not locked in the room, it would make things slightly harder.

But since I don't have to cross that bridge, I won't consider what the implications of not receiving the key would have been. I'm off to central London shortly, to drink some nice drinks.

How could I do it

I have forgotten to bring my keys back down to London with me which means I can't get in my room. It's lucky that I have a load of stuff with me in my bag, else I'd be in trouble! Also not having a bed last night and tonight will not be nice, but I should get my keys tomorrow morning. I'm never going to forget them again, it causes too much trouble!

It's Sunday again, already!

It's Sunday again, I really don't know where this weekend has gone. I'll be heading off back down to London shortly, as I'm going earlier this week it should not take as long. On the train I'll be reading some of one of the books I recently purchased from Amazon, I'll post some details of those up later.

The one I am taking with me right now, relates to Solaris 9 which should help with learning more for the Solaris 9 certification exams. Taking them all down by train will make my bag too heavy, so I'll take some more of them with me next weekm when I come back.

Being let down

I hate being let down, so I try not to do it to other people too often. I was meant to be going out tonight but now because of someone else and them having my invite, I can't go. Not to worry, but it's annoying when you're looking forward to doing something and then someone changes their mind or something comes up, that really is something that could be avoided.

Looks like I'll be more awake at work tomorrow than I thought I would be, since I'll be getting to bed earlier than was planned!

The phone line is active

BT have activated the phone line down here which means that the ADSL can now be ordered, so that is good news. I've ordered an optical mouse for use with my laptop, I've gone some I could use but with the wireless active as well, sometimes the mouse can be affected so I've ordered a new wired one. I find it much easier using a mouse rather than a pad on a laptop. Once the Internet pipe is active and I get the mouse it'll mean I can do some proper browsing at night.

I've got loads of things I need to do and loads of news to catch up on and blog about but it's either do it during the day at the moment or leave it until the mouse and Internet are sorted. I can do some of it during the day but it's easier when people are not around and bothering me, which is mostly during leisure time.

I'll have to get motivated and work on things during the day since I've got a lot of free time at the moment at work, for various reasons. I have been doing some web based courses, but they get a bit boring after a while, so having breaks is good. It's only possible to take in so much information at a time without forgetting a lot of it.

I've got access to over 4,000 books as well, on every I.T based topic, so I'll be reading a lot and printing some off as well probably to read away from a computer. Having access to that many books is great, especially since they are all provided to us free of charge due to being paid for by the company. It's good when companies invest in the learning and education of their staff, it is beneficial to the staff and the company.

I need to get in a routine

I need to make sure I leave earlier when going back down to London, as the later I leave it the longer it takes due to less trains running at later times, once I get down to London. It's going to be so much easier once I sort a car, I'm going to make that a priority in the next month or so. It'll be added expense initally, but it'll save me a lot of time, money and effort in the long run.

It'll mean I get more time to spend doing things I want to be doing, rather than wasting a lot of time on travel. Although, I'm spending less money and time on travel now, than I was recently so it's mostly good!

Back home

I'm back home up north, in comparison to London anyway. I've got some things to do this weekend, but no doubt I won't get them all done. Once the Internet pipe is activated in the house and I have a proper connection, I'll be able to catch up on a load of things. I've got time at work, but it's easier in your own totally free time.

Very quiet

It's quite quiet at work here at the moment so I've not actually done that much since I started. Since there is so much work in the queue, it's strange that there are weeks of quiet time, but this is due to a number of factors, like customer cancellations and such. I've spent the week doing reading and I've ordered a number of books to read, some certification based and some PHP / MySQL.

More on that later though. I'm off back home this weekend, so might get some things done that I need to do. Then again, probably not!

Back to normal hours

I'm back to working normal hours now, but I'm finding that I am more tired than I was working later. Maybe it is because I've been sleeping a bit more. It's probably because I'm getting used to the new hours and having to get up earlier again, which is something I've not really done for over a year!

Apart from that, everything is good.

Is Ebuyer really rubbish?

I've never had a bad thing to say about Ebuyer, until now. As you may know I have been trying to order a laptop from Ebuyer for over a week now and have had nothing but problems. Firstly, my card kept being declined so I tried another one and had the same problem. I contacted my bank who said there is no issue, not declined replies have been sent out at all which would indicate no attempt to charge the card was ever made.

I thought that it might be a problem with the Ebuyer system since the payments are taken automatically, that is unless they have someone sitting there processing orders all day and night. Once I started having problems on other sites, I thought it might be a problem with a core banking system, especially since a few other people I know were having problems.

The next step was to open a ticket with Ebuyer, to request that they take payment manually as I required the laptop as quickly as possible. I opened the ticket early on Wednesday 26th January and the ticket was not even looked at until I got a reply on the morning of Wednesday 2nd February. That is not acceptable. Why did it take this long to reply?

Ebuyer states that the delay is due to a queue that built up over the Christmas period. There is a simple solution to that problem, ensure some staff that would like to work, are working. The other problem is there there is no telephone support number in operation now, so everyone is having to use the ticket system regardless of query or issue.

I could of course call one of the numbers that have been published in various places, but at the moment I don't have an open order because it has been cancelled. I'll have to wait until tomorrow now to place a new order. I am really not happen about the amount of time I have had to wait for a reply to get a simple issue sorted out. I was told that my order would be processed manually but instead it has been cancelled. Not only is there a lack of communication, the information that is provided is misleading.

Ebuyer need to sort a few things out, else they will start loosing customers who until recently in some cases, have had no problems at all with the service provided by Ebuyer.

I could of course take my money to another supplier, but Ebuyer provide some of the best prices so I will attempt to order again tomorrow and see how it goes. I'd do it now but I forgot my cards today so will have to wait. I'll post an update tomorrow, when I know if the payment goes through or not.

So far so good

I'm down in London now and after a mad morning of travel, I finally made it to work. It has been a rather chilled first day, as will the next few weeks as I learn how things are managed and such. I did not get much sleep last night as I was wide awake, but aI'm really tired now so will be getting an early night and catching up on some sleep.

Going to London

I'll be off to London at some point on Tuesday, probably quite late in the day, but ready to start my new job on Wednesday. I have quite a small list of things that I shall be taking down with me, just the essential things really.

Due to the problems I have been having buying things online, I have not yet managed to get my laptop ordered but hopefully I'll be able to sort it out shortly, as I'll need it!

Payments being declined

I've had a number of online payments that have been declined. I contacted my bank and they said nothing is wrong but it seems that I'm not the only one having trouble. I was trying to order a laptop from Ebuyer but have not yet been able to. At first I thought it was something to do with Ebuyer, but other sites have been affected.

There must have been some major system outage affecting core payment systems, a few other people I know have also been having trouble, mine started earlier this week. Hopefully the problems will be sorted soon, if not already. I'll have a look around and see if I can find any information about what has been happening.

Accomodation is sorted

I've sorted accomodation out, I'm going down to check it out on Saturday. I'll be sharing with the girl that is buying the house and two others. She has decided to rent out the other 3 rooms, it looks like it will be me and another guy and the two girls. More on that later. It's a new house and seems quite big, so should be fine.

As for the Solaris exam, I failed. Not very good, but it was my own fault for doing no revision, some of the questions I had no idea about, I don't remember covering certain sections on the courses I did at the end of 2003 plus I was tired which didn't help. I've got another voucher, so will do some revision before taking it again.

Solaris System Administrator part 1 exam

Tomorrow I've got the Solaris System Administrator part 1 exam. It should not be too much of a problem for me given the good amount of experience I've gained through my own learning and work related tasks, a few people I know from work have recently passed it and one of them had not had any prior Unix experience before he started his current position and has only been in that position for just over a year.

I've not done any revision though, but I'll do some reading in the morning so I can get refreshed on a few things that I know are in the exam. Providing I pass that, I'll book part 2 and that will be the end of that. Until I do the Solaris 10 upgrade.

I've passed my driving test!

I finally got around to passing my driving test last week, but forgot to post about it to tell everyone the good news, until now. It was my second attempt and out of the allowance of 15 minor mistakes I made 7, so not bad at all considering the average number of test attempts for people to pass in this country is usually 3 or 4.

It's something I should have done years ago, but never got around to it. I'm glad that it is out of the way, it'll make getting around a lot easier. Now I've just got to sort a car out and then I can learn how to really drive!

It's Friday

It's Friday, the start of the weekend. Although, I've had one long weekend for a while as I've been off work waiting to start my new job. I had planned on doing a number of things today but never had enough time and motivation.

I'm off out now and will be back at some point tomorrow, so can continue then.

Have a good one!

List of tasks

Having all this free time at the moment, I was hoping to catch up on a lot of things and complete some tasks that I've got on my list of things that need to be worked on.

I've got some things completed but there is a lot that needs to be done. I'm going to buy a nice laptop shortly, which will come in use when I am down in London. I've got a few things to sort out still such as accomodation. It looks like it is going to be a last minute thing, but we'll see.

Having all this free time actually gets boring when you are not doing that much, I should have gone away abroad!

A number of things to sort out

With starting my new job based in London next month, I've got a number of things to sort out. Knowing me, I'll leave a lot of it until the last minute. I'm not sure what I am doing with regards to accomodation just yet but I'll probably end up renting a room or sharing but if I can find a decent place near to the office that is a decent monthly price then I'll probably do that instead as I would rather have my own place over sharing with people I don't know.

In about six months I will probably be looking to buy a place with one of my friends. With the joint buying power of both of us we can get something better, maybe around the London area or maybe a bit further out. We will both be working in London so it makes sense because we'll be investing money every month rather than throwing it away on renting. In the long run, the property will obviously be an investment and if the time came to sell it then we'd get our money back plus profit.

I'll see what happens, but at least doing it this way I won't be rushing and will know by that point if I want to stay in the new position. I'm not sure if I will state the name of this new company at the moment, maybe not at all. I'll say for now, it's another big American company. After the trouble some people have had with their employers knowing about and reading their blogs, maybe this is a good opportunity for me to start clean in that area, even though I've not had any trouble there is always the potential, especially when joining a new employer.

When you know people that work at the same company as you are reading your blog, you might not have the freedom to talk about certain things that are work related or not. It could be even worse if they know it is yours but you don't know they know. If they read it but don't know it is yours then it is alright to exercise your freedom of thought and speech more easily, which is why I have the opportunity of doing so now, with the company change coming up.

In light of being able to speak about anything more freely by keeping some information such as the company name private, I think I'll not disclose that information at the moment. It could definately be the better option due to some of my thoughts and opinions that I may decide to share with you, regarding various things employers might not like their staff discussing, work related and various other subjects.

It must be a mistake!

I've recently received some cards through from my share broker,
TD Waterhouse, to allow me to gain access to funds in my account as well as pay for things using them as well if I wish. Upon receiving them, I've noticed that the expiry date is 04/05 on both cards. There must be a mistake, a card that is only valid for four months?

Something has obviously gone wrong as I can't see them sending me new cards all the time since there is no need. I'm going to call them on Monday and see what they say. There is a first time for everything I know, but I've not heard of anyone experiencing this card expiry issue before.

It's not like banks have a standard set period that all customer cards are valid for so that they all cycle at the same time. Maybe TD Waterhouse do use that method, but I doubt it as it's better to spread the new card creation load over time rather than have them all expire at the same time.

The first day of 2005

Well after having a long night last night and not arriving home until 8.30am I went straight to bed as it had been a good night and I needed to sleep of the current state of mind that I was in.

I've not long been up and I'm still feeling tired so will probably try and get some more sleep in a while.

Now it's 2005 I might get around to doing things that I've been putting off. I finally got MT upgraded so that is one thing off the list. More to come!

As for resolutions for 2005, I don't have any!

Boxing Day

It's what we know as Boxing Day today, but there is not much boxing taking place that I know of. The reports of the massive earthquake has caused a lot of deaths, there is never a good time for a natural disaster to take place but at Christmas and the holiday period it's even worse.

It makes me and I'm sure a lot of other people glad that we live in places where this kind of thing does not happen. There is no more snow here and I didn't manage to grab any pictures before it melted, which was not very long. Hopefully there will be some early next year like there was earlier this year.

It's Christmas Eve

I hope you all get what you want. That is of course if Santa manages to complete his mission this year and visit each and every home. It was nice when I was younger thinking about all of that, but when you get to a certain age and know it is made up, the fun part is gone and never to return.

At least there will still be plenty of mince pies and other food to consume and plenty of drinks to drink!

Merry Christmas

Good news

Well after having two interviews on Monday, I've found out that I have been offered one of the jobs already. I'm just waiting for the paperwork to come through. I have not found out about the other one yet. I think I'll probably take the one I've already been offered for a number of reasons but we'll see.

I'll explain more when the documents come through which could be a few days since it is nearly Christmas and such. It looks like I'll now be spending most of my time in and around London.

Virgin Trains customer service quality is debatable

With having to go down south to London earlier today, I went by train as I usually would. I have a young persons discount rail card, which I normally carry but this time forgot to take. I had booked my tickets in advance and usually I don't even get asked for my pass by the train staff but this time, a certain member of staff who also happened to be the train manager wanted to see it.

When I told him I did not have it, he said that I would have to buy another ticket, although this could be refunded later I simply did not have the available funds on me to pay and I could not use my card because there was not enough available credit. Regardless of the fact you should carry it, they should be able to check up to see if you have got one, maybe not on the train but later on then they could send out an invoice afterwards. I provided my details, but thinking about it now I should have not bothered because they don't have to give their full names.

Another lady on the train also stated to this member of staff that not it works both ways with providing details. He did not give me any. If I do get a letter from them, there is no way on this earch I will be paying for another ticket since I had one and if they had a proper system they could have easily checked the appropriate database to confirm that I do have a discount card which means that my discounted ticket was valid.

To top it all off, not only was this member of staff rude an unprofessional, he also took my return ticket as I gave it to him when he requested it thinking I was going to get it back. He would not give it me back. If I had of not been dressed in my suit, I probably would not have hesitating in giving this unprofessional staff member, to point it nicely - What he deserved.

I was not really annoyed anough to take it that far and being on train full of people as well as being smartly dressed I avoided that. I didn't even give him any verbal abuse however he was saying a lot of rubbish to me. He made a call, I thought he was checking my details but he did not while I was there. Apart from having a bad start to the day, the rest of it went well. Thinking about it I should have just given him bogus information since he did not have the decency to provide his full name.

I'm just waiting for the letter to come through now, if it does I really will have some fun. If their system worked, if there was even a proper system in place, what would happen now is nothing. Since they would check the appropriate database and find I was not in the wrong.

I'm sorry, I made the mistake of forgetting my young persons discount card. Yes, that is correct it was my intention to do that and I should be made to buy another ticket because they don't have a real system in place that allows this database to be checked either on the train or later on before sending out letters to people.

They had better not waste the paper and ink, it can demand money, a court date or anything really. The only place it'll be going after my reply is in the bin.

Innocent until proven guilty. Unless forgetting a discount card is a crime. They say that the terms and conditions state that you must have the card to make the ticket valid. Fair enough, I could have got a refund on another ticket later, but how was I meant to do this when I had no viable way of buying the ticket again on the train?

Virgin Trains and the other providers need to sort it out. They also need to sort out the reliability of trains, most of the time you simply cannot relay on a train in this country.

So this is another in the series of my debatable customer services series of posts, I'm sure it will not be the last. I'm not really one for complaining officially but I usually air my views. I've got some updates on some that have featured previously, where I have written letters and nothing has improved and my previous issues have still not even been addressed in some cases, more on those shortly.

It's that time again

I'm on nights again this week. It seems to come round a lot quicker lately, but that is due to the fact that now I'm on a three week rotation. It gives me even more reason to be trying to find a more suitable role, with regards to location and the working hours. I would not mind so much if I was not spending as much time on travel, but it is really annoying me now as so much of my time is being wasted that could be used doing productive things. It'll soon be sorted out hopefully so in the mean time, I'll just have to continue to deal with it.

Is it worth planning in advance?

I would say some of the time, but when it comes down to weekend trips that involve going out, my plans usually change so most of the time it is not worth planning anything in advance. Well, accomodation and such should be arranged but anything else is always open to change. Last night at Fabric was great, but instead of leaving earlier and going to get some sleep before getting up to get out of the hotel at 11am, I stayed out and never got back to the hotel until 8am.

I was planning on having a few hours sleep, but the next thing I know it was 2pm and we were woken up by the hotel calling our room. We had to pay an extra 30 pounds for getting out of the room late, which is something I have not experienced by a hotel before, normally it is free.

Also because I was in need of more sleep and not feeling too good, combined with the fact it was now 3pm, I decided it was not worth heading to Max Power as it would have been too late by the time I got over there. A good weekend was had, but I was a bit annoyed I never made it to the show but it was my own fault. I'm back home now and heading to bed. So there you have a quick summary of things, but of course a lot was left out because I never know who might read this, for one thing!

Fun & relaxation all the way

Last night was great, today I'll be spending time checking out shops and going for drinks and food around the Docklands. I'll probably head to Leicester Square later tonight before heading to Fabric and meeting up with some others that are heading to London today. This weekend is all about relaxing and having fun. Mind you, that is what most of my weekends are about, but since the hotel does offer free Internet access on a number of compauters as well as the wireless, I thought I'd make a quick post.

Down in the Docklands

Well after arriving at the hotel earlier and chilling out, I'm about to go out. It was a bit of a mad rush getting down here as I never got up until late. It's going to be a good weekend though. I'll probably do some shopping tomorrow and then get ready for tomorrow night. The hotel has wireless Internet access but since I don't have a laptop with me it is not much use. I'll be glad when I do get one, but that will have to wait a while.

The area is really nice and new, if you have not seen it or been before make sure you check it out if you can. My hotel is just a fw minutes walk from Canary Wharf which is the tallest building in the UK. A lot of businesses and offices are located in the area. There are some new apartments being built but prices start around 300,000 which is not anything out of the ordinary considering they are in London and right in the heart of the business area.

Hotel is now booked

I've booked the hotel now. I'll be staying at the Britannia International Hotel. Since I have left it so late, I could not find one in a more central location for both nights. I'll be a little way out down by Canary Wharf, it's a nice hotel with all the usual things you would expect to find. It's got a swimming pool, sauna, wireless Internet access and lots of other things.

It looks nice, but I'll have to wait and see what it turns out to be like. It is a four star though so should be fine. I would have spent this weeking still catching up on things but again because I was working to an altered sleep pattern most of the day is gone and I've not got time now, so things will have to wait until Sunday and next week.

Long weekend

I'm taking off Thursday and Friday this week and having a little break before I head to London on Friday for a couple of nights out down there as well as attending the Max Power London show. I've not yet sorted out a hotel but will be doing that soon. On Friday night, I'll be going to Brixton Academy and on Saturday I'll be off to Fabric.

It's going to be a good weekend!

Vodafone - Silence

I've given Vodafone a call to find out what is happening and it seems that I'll probably have to wait a little be more time for their complaints department to get in touch. I've also spoken to Nokia, who stated it is an issue caused by the provider since they don't supply the handsets with any blocks in place when they sell them to the providers so the blocks have been put in place by Vodafone.

I'm going to wait a while longer for a reply backfrom Vodafone complaints department and if I don't hear anything back I'll chase it again. I was informed by the customer services person I was speaking to that the complaints department don't speak to customer services so the chance of a customer speaking to them is even less. They just leave notes on accounts for people to pick up.

What a mission this is turning out to be.

Danny Tenaglia is in town!

I'm heading off to London shortly to see Danny Tenaglia spin some records in London tonight. I've not seen him for a while, he has not played in the UK for a few years so on this rare chance I'd be mad to miss it. It'll be going on all night with Danny playing an 8 hour set.

With four rooms of different sounds it's going to be a great night!
First, I've got the train trip down there and then to a few bars before heading to the club. Since it was my birthday last week this is the big celebration, see you there maybe!

No reply from Vodafone

Well, I've had no reply from Vodafone yet, after the letter I sent you would think that they would at least contact me. I'm going to have to give them a call shortly and see what is going on. If the issues are not resolved then I'm just going to leave and move to another network that can sort out something as simple as what I am requesting, which in case you did not know is to remove some bars on my number / phone which stop me getting any service when out of the UK.

Ever had that feeling?

The feeling where you should have done something, but did something else instead? The opposite of what you did do, would have been the better move to make but at the time you were not aware. It happens a lot. Thinking ahead is always good but in some cases it is not possible to do or is possible but your thoughts might not be based on evidence, but rather guess work.

Making imformed decisions is better of course, but then there is human judgement which is something that is very variable in accuracy. More on this and other things later, as it's time for bed - an earlier night for a change!

Happy birthday!

It is that time again. It's my birthday! It seems a bit longer since the last one, more than usual. It reminds me that the year is nearly over again and summer here is long gone but it never really came this year. How old (young) am I now?

I'm 23, the main birthday event is going to be a three or four day event in London next weekend. It's a joint celebration for a few of us who are getting a year older in November, can't wait!

Present wise, I usually prefer the money but when getting older the presents don't come as thick and fast as they used to. Maybe it is time to start a revolution to get buying presents for every birthday no matter what the age, back on the map!

Waiting on trains

I've spent a few hours waiting for trains to depart today, they were delayed due to problems with power and such. I was just thinking about how I could have used that time to read some of the books I need to read instead of just sitting around being bored.

I didn't have anything with me to read so I was forced to stare through the glass windows and up towards the sky. I'm going to have to remember to carry some books in future as the time spent waiting around could easily be used to be more productive.

So there is my mental note, all I have to do now is remember it.

Another coffee lost

I may well just be accident prone or it might be due to the lack of space I have, but I've just knocked over a nice cup of coffee. Luckily, although going all over some things including a box to the side of the desk that the cup was on, nothing has been damaged. It took me a while though to clean everything up. Drying the CD's was the time consuming part.

I was sitting down and span around on my chair to grab something and the back of the seat knocked the mug off the desk. I was really annoyed. I've done this before. I think I am going to have to stop taking drinks near to equipment just incase, as one of these days something is going to get soaked and break.

I did manage to cover a keyboard, but the machine it was connected to was switched off anyway. It is a rubbish keyboard anyway so this is just an excuse to throw it away and buy a decent one to replace it. The funny thing is that I just had a big clear up in this room and if something was going to happen I would have thought it would have before.

I was actually looking forward to drinking the nice drink as well, maybe I will finally learn.

Porsche museum

I've spend today visiting the Porsche museum in Stuttgart. Of course, as you may well know Stuttgart is the home of the factory where these amazing cars are made. I did not get a chance to go on the factory tour because you have to book it in advance but this is something I will do next time. I got quite a few pictures of the cars, but forgot to take another battery with me and the one I had was running very low and ran out so next time I'll get some more. I might even get them online at some point.

Also next time I think I'll make a visit to the Mercedes site and have a look around there. The Porsche museum is really small, but we spent a lot of time looking at the newer models in another building. It was interesting seeing some of the really old models and cars that have been in races, a lot of classics are on show. Also, as one would expect is a nice Carrera GT, which was good to see in the flesh but I've seen one already this year at the Birmingham Motor Show 2004 - this car never fails to impress.

I picked up a few things such as scaled down models to bring home, but my intention is to buy a nice new 911 Turbo at some point. I'm thinking of importing it from Germany and going to the factory to pick it up, that would be great and it would also save a lot of money, instead of paying loads more buying one in the UK.

I'm also back home now. I'm glad I went and will be sure to go again, maybe a little earlier next year and head to Munich and some other places as well. I'm glad to be home so I can sleep in my own bed again and have a good sleep after the recent lack of it!

Wine fest

Well, last night and all day was great, experiencing the festivals over here is something different. Apart from the massive jugs of beer available, there were also plenty of rides to go on and a lot of live music. I could not understand most of it, but it was interesting trying to.

The amount of people around is crazy and I'm told that the Munich festival is a lot bigger and a lot more people go. I've missed that this year, so might make a trip for that next year and maybe Stuttgart too. Today I've been doing the same again but tasting some wines, locally produced last year. I'm not a fan of wines that much but there were plenty of things to do as well as drink. I'm planning on going out again tonight, to some bars which will be fun. I've done some sight seeing around town and plan to do some more. If I had more time during this trip I would probably visit some other places here and around the country but that will have to wait.

Beer fest

I'll be off to the local beer fest in Stuttgart later today, spending all day there and then who knows what. Things will plan out as we go. I've found a few things which have been interesting, such as the fact that in most places you pay at the end or every now and again instead of each time you order. There is a lot of trust involved there and that is something that would not work back in the UK and indeed in many countries but it appears to work here in Germany.

Also the trains are a lot better than back home and the network of trains seems to be a lot bigger allowing you to get around easier and is promoting the use of public trainsport instead of cars.

Arrived okay

The flight over was fine, weather was nice. I am just visiting various places and doing various things. This keyboard is a German one so the layout is different so I will keep this short. More updates later, on an easier to use keyboard!

Leaving now!

I'm just about to leave for the airport. It's only 5 minutes away, so no extra trouble getting there. I'll be there nice and early as well but have been in a rush getting ready as I expected.

Last minute, again.

I know I should be sorting things for tomorrow, but I'm not. It is going to be a last minute rush no doubt. Since the trip is short, I will not need that mant things so it should not take to long to sort.

Not long to go now. It's a shame I don't have a decent laptop of mine to take with me. I could take the new one just purchased, but I'd rather have my own which will have things on I use and need.

Hopefully there should be some Internet access points around that I can use to check a few things. Now, if only browsing the net was better via mobile phones, then that problem would be solved more easily!

Heading to Germany

I'll be heading to Gemany on Thursday, to check out the place and see what is going on at the festivals. I know there should be plenty of beers, foods and rides to go on. It'll be good and I should spend some time going to different places, do some sight seeing and such.

I'll be going to Stuttgart and staying there but also probably visiting Munich & some other places. I'm not really sure of the plan yet. I'll be there until Monday so need to plan how to spend the time. Some of the people I'm going with have worked over there so they know what is worth checking out, they'll be the guides. I know some German from learning it at school but I'll probably take my translator as well.

I know most can speak English but it would be interesting trying to hold a conversation in German. I suppose I should get packing my things!

Investments

I've been meaning to put some capital towards some investments for a while but have not yet got around to doing so. One of the main requirements for doing so, is having the spare capital in the first place. Most poeple would rather spend this money rather than tie it up.

I'm looking to make a number of investments. One of the areas I'll be looking over and reading some books on is the markets. I'd also consider investing in some property in the future, but I'm not really sure exactly what I want to do yet.

Of course, usually where there is more risk there can be a lot more available in returns. It all depends on if you are prepared to take more risk. I'm going to, because even with higher risk investments, if you play your cards right you can come out on top. It's also all experience and that is what life is about.

I'm going to be buying some more Premium Bonds shortly, the rest I'm going to have to plan.

Early start

I've got an early start tomorrow, it's going to be a long day. I've got to head down south to Swindon. But more on that later. I've only just got in from work and now I've got to head straight to bed. I won't be back home until this time tomorrow either. Going back to what I've said previously, there needs to be more hours in the day.

Either that or I need to remove some things from my schedule. I don't think time management is part of the equation either, I've already refined is as much as possible and still I am dealing with a day to day mission at the moment!

Things are looking to change...

Lots going on

I've got quite a lot going on at the moment and I'm annoyed that there are not enough hours in the day to deal with it all. Nevermind, it'll all work out in the end. I've still not got around to some things since I got back from Ibiza and with some upcoming trips and a load of other things going on, I had better hurry up.

Being interrupted when sleeping

I find it really annoying when I am woken up constantly be ringing phones, be it the landline or my mobile. Even when on silent, I find that the vibrating of the phone can wake me up unless I am in a really deep sleep. It is like natural trigger that I have programmed to wamke me up when my phone is receiving an incoming call. Just a slight period of quiet time when you can be left alone never hurts.

The night shift

I'm back on the night shift, which means another week of being in bed during the day. I don't mind, but it is something that I would rather avoid when it is caused due to work. After spending most of the weekend until the early hours watching a load of films, it won't be anything different to that.

But still, it is annoying as I actually loose time because I tend to spend more time in bed when working nights. That is something that will have to chance, one way or another.

Not as bad as I thought

I've been back from Ibiza for one week now and it's not as bad being back as I thought it would be. I think it is mainly because I have tried to not think about being back as well as other things which I had on my mind that were having an influence on my mind.

Things are moving on the business front, only not quickly enough so that is something exciting I have been thinking about and projecting some figures. I've still not got around to catching up on a load of news so that is something I'll have to do in the next few days as at the moment it's like something is missing, I'm out of the loop.

Srange, but true.

Waiting for the bank

I'm waiting for some transactions to appear on my statement at the moment that I made at the airport on the way back from Ibiza. Due to there being other transactions and the exchance rate being used unknown, I have to wait until it shows up on my online statement. It's not that much of an issue but it always appears to take longer when you are actively waiting for something.

It would be a lot better if the transactions were processed in full at the time so all details were available to the customer straight away. Maybe this will be the case in the future.

Spiders

I don't really have a problem with spiders, well not ones round here, house spiders. There is one lurking around my room though, I has been popping up a little lately. I'm not sure what to do, in that I could put it outside but maybe it prefers to be living inside in the warm. I just don't want it running over me when I am in bed like has happened to me before. It is quite big though!

Any suggestions, leave it inside or put it outside at the next chance I have of catching it?

Lots of sleep required

I've spend most of today sleeping, catching up on the sleep that I have missed out on for most of the 3 weeks I was in Ibiza during August. I wish it was 2001 again as I was just preparing to go out to Ibiza around this time. It is always hard work going home and back to work and having to actually do things.

Hopefully I won't end up ill this time as I did when I returned from the previous trip, maybe that will offset any potential impact now.

The trip back was okay

I'm back home now, the travel today was not too bad. Since we were quite late to get to the airport there was not much waiting around to do and the plane was ready so we left shortly after we were scheduled to. Of course I then had to travel back up north which was another 3 hours. Usually I prefer to get a flight that is closer to home, but could not in this case as we all had to travel together.

I'm going to save the unpacking until tomorrow. At the moment I'm just reading email and various other things. Tomorrow will be a day of catching up on various things and relaxing. I'm glad that I will get a good sleep tonight, simply because it is not so hot that I sweat and can get to sleep easily. I have had trouble sleeping the past 2 weeks due to the heat and no air conditioning. I have had to just wait until I was that tired I could fall asleep.

It has beena good trip and I did a lot of things I wanted to on the list, but there are still things such as Formentera & DC10 that I have still not done, even though I had plenty of time so next year, as I always say. It's going to be time for bed soon, but first I'll clean all this comment spam and update the list.

Packing, something to put off

I don't like packing because it means you are on your way home, well usually anyway unless you are heading to another destination. It is rather hot in the apartment and with no air conditioning it makes even the slightest task seem like hard work. Tonight I would be up for going out to a club, but the others are short on cash so we have decided to relax tonight.

Tomorrow we have to get up early to catch our flight home. I was considering missing the flight and staying to head to Space tomorrow as it will be wicked with Sasha and James Zabiela on the decks. I don't think I will though, but another short trip might be on the cards for some closing parties which should top things off until the fun starts next year.

Cream

Tonight we are off to Cream, but I would also like to head to Pacha as Sasha is playing and I have already missed him at Space last week. It looks like everyone else is going to Pacha though so I will probably end up there as well. One thing is for sure it looks like it is going to be a long night and carry on afterwards I think!

On another note I have noticed the amount of spam comments that have appeared so I will have a job getting rid of it all when I get home.

Another day...

Of drinking and relaxing, you would not think it is so much hard work, but it is. Tonight we were planning on going to Pacha but there has been a change of plan and we are going to just chill instead. It is probably a good idea as we have been out virtually every night so a break would be advised. Of course there will be more drinking and relaxing taking place.

Out of energy

I spent about five hours today by the pool on the roof just lying there, although I was in the shade one side of me seems to be red. I am not sure why. The time is running out now and I still have a number of things I want to complete so will have to get them done over the next few days else they will have to be put off again.

Manumission

Tonight I shall be off to Manumission, which should be good. I am looking forward to it even more since we are getting in for free. I just noticed how quickly time is passing then on the other hand it is also going slowly, it really depends on how you look at it.

Space again!

Today I have been trying to sleep for most of it but I shall be off to Space shortly, going quite late for once though so will probably miss the terrace fun. Then afterwards I will make it to DC10 and then tomorrow night the fun starts at Manumission with free entry and drinks, it is the first of the 3 VIP nights we won on Friday.

Time is going quite quickly, but it always does when you are having fun.

Hed Kandi

I shall be going to Hed Kandi tonight at El Divino. It shall be a night of funky tunes. I am not liking the fact that our room is not air conditioned, it makes sleeping hard when you are hot and dripping with sweat.

Result!

We won the competition on the Essential Selection tonight so we have free entry for 3 clubs next week here in Ibiza for four of us which is going to save us a load of cash. Last night I drank far too much Vodka but was not sick which I am pleased about. I felt really ill though and the thought of drinking at the moment makes me feel ill.

I haveb noticed the spammers have been taking advantage and there seems to be a load of comment spam added over the past week. I am going to have to get on a proper conmputer to use a decent browser to sort that out at some point. I have not sorted my phone still so that is something I need to do.

Pacha - Erick Morillo rocked!

It was a good night at Pacha last night and after getting in at about 9am this morning I have been in bed all day. Just had something to eat and now the plan is to head to the roof and start drinking then a bit later head of to some bars or something.

I actually think in some resopects it is a lot harder being out here than being at home, but I would obviously rather not be at work. When I get home I will have a lot of news and such to catch up on, since the local terminal I am using for Internet access this time is not very friendly and I cannot navigate multiple sessions easily so it makes doing a number of updates and posting links more difficult.

Anyway, time to head to the roof!

Over the top

It is very easy to spend far too much money in a place such as Ibiza and I have done just that. It is a good job I get paid on Friday but until then I will have to use another card as I have gone over the limit on my main account. I guess that is due to having a great time, which is the best way!

Tonight I am going to Pacha, which is going to be another great night. Erick Morillo and others will be on the decks.

Time to hit the Vodka!

Last night

Last night was wicked, better than I expected as it was not as packed as I thought it would be, also the fans were blowing constantly so it was not too hot. It was great to get under the cannon again, it really cools you down and after it being on for about 5 seconds you could feel what could only be described as ice particles hitting you, which hurt a little.

I think tonight I am going to chill at some bars but some of the others are going out to Space. When I get home I will have quite a bit of news reading and such to do as when on holiday there is not much time online to keep up with it all especially as there are better ways to be spending time!

Cala Bassa

I have spentn most of today down at Calla Bassa which is close by. You have to go by boat to get there but it is only a short trip. I have caught the sun even though I was using factor 30 lotion. It was very nice in the sea, crystal clear water and nice and warm. I have also decided to try as many water activities as possible during this trip so when I go back there I am going to have a go on a jet ski and also some other things like the banana boat.

We have a nice pool on the roof of our building so spent some time up there last night. I took it easy though as on Saturday night I drank quite a lot of alcohol and after only a few hours sleep we had tob get up to get to the airport. Tonight after watching the sun go down we will be going to Cacoon at Amnesia which should be a great night.

Sunday, August 22, 2004

So far

I have made it back okay but there were a number of issues. Firstly the flight was delayed by about two hours, which was annoying since we got to the airport very early which meant that we had a lot of waiting to do. I was rather impressed by the plane, it was huge in conmparison to the aircraft I have been used to flying on lately.

If I remember correctly it was an Airbus 330. Also being able to view teo cameras, one at the front of the plane and one underneath allowed us to watch as we were flying and gave a great view of the runway and landing from the front camera which was basically the same view you would see from the cockpit. You could also view details such as current speed, altitude and outside temperature all on the personal displayv on the back of each seat.

Another good thing was that we decided not to pay the extra money for the in flight meal but everyone got one anyway which was good for us but not as good for the people that had paid!

There is no air conditioning but we are going to get some fans in the rooms and we have a fridge to keep the drinks cold which is great. Tonight is going to be a chilled on so a change of plan there as I was planning on going to Space. It is great to be back and I am going to do as much as I can in these two weeks before I return to the real world. It is 38 degrees outside yet there is a nice breeze. There was not much of a sunset today though, due to quite a bit of cloud cover but hopefully we will see a better one tomorrow.

Nearly time to go

It's nearly time to leave, I'm still in the process of packing though but not that much more to do. I did have a list of things to post and quite a few interesting links I have recently found but I'll have to save them until I return home.

If my sleeping pattern had not been out of order, I might have been inclined to sort them out earlier but it's hard to sleep when you are wide awake which means I am tired later on and I certainly don't have the desire to do a lot unless I am forced to when feeling really tired.

The list

I did have a list of things to complete before going back to Ibiza and I can say that as expected I have not completed many of them. Due to the fact I have been relaxing and putting things off. When they are not that important I tend to do that. I guess I'll have to get round to them when I return.

Packing again

The joys of packing are great, I was going to do it now but I've decided to leave it until later. No doubt when later comes I will be in a rush and will wish I had of sorted it earlier.

Some of the time we learn from previous experience and the rest of the time we do not!

Getting ready to pack

I'm getting ready to pack everything again, for the full two week trip back to Ibiza. I've unpacked from before but not put everything away as there was no point. This time I'm going to pack earlier and then won't have much to do before I travel down south to Kent on Saturday, before going to Gatwick Airport early Sunday to fly back.

I'm quite good at remembering things from a mental list and did not really forget anything on the last trip so hopefully should not have a problem this time either. I packed far too much before this time I should have the right amount of clean clothes but again probably too much. I'd rather have too much than not enough anyway.

Ben is away in Spain at the moment as welll as you can see from his moblog pictures. I'll probably be taking some now that my phone should work abroad. I've not yet had a chance to see how the format may different on the Nokia 6600 so will probably use my Sharp GX10i for the pictures until I sort the Nokia 6600 to work as I want with regards to integration with my blog.

I've not sorted out being able to write blog posts yet via my mobile - there are a number of options. I could use use the mobile version of Opera and login that way. That has it's limitations so I will probably go the script method and do text based blogging via MMS or email from my phone. If I don't sort that out before I go then I'll be updating from computer as I have prevoiusly done.

Feeling better

I'm feeling a lot better now which is good since I will be back on form for when I go back to Ibiza this weekend. I'll be spending the next few days catching up on things, such as news and the like as these things are hard to keep on top of when you have limited Internet access and also being on holiday you try and remove yourself from most things to enjoy a relaxing trip with different properties to thye usual day to day life.

The hard part is going to moving back towards the routine after I get back from the next trip. Hopefully when I return though, I shall be ready to complete a number of projects and also work on some other things which need to be done.

I knew it!

Well I managed to stay well during the trip, but now I am back I have got a cold and don't feel that well. It's always the way and must be related to the hard partying that most of us do in Ibiza!

Hopefully I can loose it before I catch my flight back!

Back home now

I'm back from Ibiza now and don't I know it as just on the way back from the airport it was pouring with rain. I'm usually sad, but since I am going back and for another 2 weeks, it does not bother me that much that I've come home this time.

It was a nice warm up trip. Now I've got some free days to heopfully not get ill, catch up on things and then prepare to go back!

That time already

It's time to go home already. The time really has flown, but the good news for me is that I am coming back again in nine days or so, for another two weeks so that means I'll have spent just under 3 weeks on the island this summer and maybe a closing party weekend trip?

Who knows. I've not yet managed to clean off anything on my list of things to do this year over there such as visit certain places. I'll get round to doing them this time.

It was 27 degrees at 10pm when I was last outside, but I've heard it is raining back home and obviously colder. I'd be sad, but since I'm back here in no time I'm not! I've spent too much money though, but I always do!

The heat..

I suppose you get used to living in a hot climate, but when you are not used to it, the heat can really take the energy out of you. Even more so when combined with the lack of sleep, food and such. Well, that is the case for me anyway. I'm glad I have not got a cold this time though, which is what usually happens out here.

The heat makes people be really relaxed and not want to do anything, it does that to me which is not a bad thing, as relaxing is what a holiday is about mainly!

Space

Space was good as usual, but I had a right game getting over there due to a lack of finding a taxi for ages as there were some local events taking place on the street which we did not know about. I'm heading off there again tomorrow for the Carl Cox event. I was only out in the Sun for a while today but as usual did not put on any cream so have gone a bit red.

It is really annoying not having a working phone, it would make contacting people a lot easier and also people would be able to get in touch with me!

Off to Space

I'll be off to Space later for We Love Sundays, which will be great especially after such a good night at Cream last night. The weather is hot as expected and the clubs get packed, some of them without air conditioning which does not help but it is all part of the business model to get people to buy more drinks.

The drinks prices have always been high in clubs, even for water but people have to buy bottled water as the water from the tap is not really good to drink.

It's all good!

Mambo was rocking

Mambo was rocking last night, I've never seen so many people down there at any one time. Now I have seen what it is like though, I prefer the old site of the past few years for Radio 1, by the windmill. Shortly I'm off to the secret party somewhere then after that off to Cream tonight.

Pacha was packed last night, far too hot and too many people which is annoying when it is really hot. It was a great night though!

Now in warmer weather!

The flight went okay so now I am here in Ibiza! The weather is hot, the vibe is relaxed as usual and there is plenty of fun to be had. The hard part is going home. The only issue I have again is that my phone does not work, which is nothing new as it has never worked correctly out here, even when I change handset. I'm going to have to get Vodafone to sort it out properly this time so it will hopefully work when I come back later in August.

Not long to go now!

I shall be heading to the airport in the next few hours ready to catch my flight to Ibiza. At the moment I am completing the packing and then running through my head things I need to check to see if I have packed them.

No doubt I shall forget something, but hopefully nothing too important. I'll have Internet access so will update on how I'm enjoying the heat, fun and lots more. It started raining when I was out earlier, wondering around the shops even though it had been a nice day so it was still nice and humid. It didn't bother me anyway as I was just thinking of how I'll be watching the nice sunset tomorrow over Ibiza.

Doesn't time go slow when..

You are waiting for something exciting to happen. It also goes really slow when you are doing something that you would rather not be doing, such as working yet when you are having fun it passes so quickly, just like it did for me this past weekend.

With a fantastic night at Godskitchen Global Gathering last night through to earlier this morning, it was great to see loads of people I know and even better that I got in free thanks to Adam over at Cyber Clubber, as well as seeing a great selection of good DJs spin loads of good records. I'm now looking forward to Thursday when I fly to Ibiza for the first week of mine out there this summer. Shortly after that, I fly back again for another two weeks.

If anyone likes dance music then you may already know of the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, but if not, tune in next Sunday morning for a 5 hour mix live from Cream at Amnesia in Ibiza,
as part of the Radio 1 Ibiza weekend 2004. Starting live on air at 12am GMT on Sunday the 8th of August, listen via the Internet if you don't have radio coverage or are not there, like I will be!

The Essential Mix lineup is as follows:

The main room:

Paul Oakenfold
Armin Van Burren
Eddie Halliwell
Fergie

The terrace:

Seb Fontaine
Jon Carter
Yousef
Nic Fanciulli

It's set to be an amazing night, I can't wait!
And don't forget to check out the rest of the Ibiza weekend schedule.

Was it worth it?

Have you ever decided to stay up all night to work on something and then come to the conclusion afterwards that you did not get very far and may as well of gone to sleep and continued the next day or when you have time?

I did this last night and after feeling quite tired all day I decided it was something I could of avoided. Of course, there are times when a deadline may call and in this situation, it would be advised to continue working through the night.

The rest of the time, especially when the task is not that important come back to it later and get your shut eye. You'll feel a lot better for doing so.

Has anyone got...

Any hours in the day they can lend me? I know we could always do with more but I could really do with some more! In fact, I just need to streamline a few things so that less time is spent / wasted - for example travel time to and from work.

Also, it would be really nice if I did not have to spend 7.5 hours a day in an office, but instead spend the time doing things that I really want to be doing on a regular basis. When you sit down and think about it, the only way in which this can effectively be accomplished is by working for yourself, running your own company.

A future projection of mine would be to be doing just this so that I have more leisure time, earning more and also have some personal satisfaction related to the business. You can obtain some satisfaction from being a number in a massive company but I really think it goes down a lot better when you know it is your company or something that you are a major player in.

We all have our hopes and desires but the key is turning them into reality. This is an ongoing mission and one I hope to complete successfully.

Ibiza flights

Well I've booked the flights for my 1st trip to Ibiza in early August and this time I'm flying from Coventry airport, which is about 20 minutes away. Birmingham International airport is under 10 minutes away from me but they don't do flight only from there, it's more all in package deals from Birmingham.

Usually I fly from East Midlands airport which is about 45 minutes away but the flights are very cheap if you book early. I've paid 122 for this return flight from Coventry because I've left it late to book. I don't mind though because it's just down the road so no messing about getting to and from the airport.

Now I just need to get a move on and sort out the last trip, which is going to be for two weeks.

It's going to be another great summer!

John Digweed

Tonight I'll be off to see John Digweed, at Godskitchen of all places. A year or two ago we would never have seen progressive and other styles at Godskitchen but these days there is a lot more variation which is good.

It's destined to be a wicked night!

Nice weather

It seems that the weather is getting better, with temperatures expected around 30+ degrees tomorrow. So, it looks like we are going to have a nice hot summer here in the UK this year which is good, but even better that I'll be heading off abroad soon to better climates!

It's just shame we miss most of the weather, being inside in the office. I think a long trip away is in order, so that's the plan at some point.

Don't you just hate it when...

You leave instructions, in this case for the courier delivery person and they don't follow them? My order came today but they never did what I had chosen on the form which should have been leaving the goods there and then as had already signed the form and this was an available option if the card was left for them to take, signed and dated.

I came home later to find the card gone and another one left. This time I have arranged it online on the Parcel Line site and told them exactly what to do.

If it does not get delivered this time, I'm going to be well annoyed. I would go and collect the package but this is not even listed as an option!

Back to work

After a nice five days off, I am going back to work tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to it really, because you never do after time off. Plus I have other things which are on my mind and there is nothing worse than being at work in that situation.

I'm also weighing things up. Like getting a job closer to home amongst other things, since I am spending too much time travelling every day, I don't get time to do much else during the week. I want things to be back how they used to be, where I worked locally and had plenty of time to do what I wanted.

Life should not be about living to work, it should be working to live at the very worst!

Well, I'm off to Homelands 2004 tomorrow and I'm wondering if the weather will hold up? For the past two years the weather has been great. I don't think it will be as nice this year but hopefully it will be okay.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

An interesting thought...

With working longer hours and spending a lot of time per week going to and from work, it means one thing - the weekend comes more quickly. Since I have been working more hours recently, I find the weekend comes and goes, but then is back again pretty quickly, which is nice.

I look forward to the fact I don't have to get up two out of every seven days, even though at the moment the earliest time I start is 12pm, so it is not that bad, but I like starting early as then you can get out and enjoy the summer nights, as they appear to be coming here now!

I know one thing, it's going to be another good summer, mind you - I always make sure I make the most of them!

Rather bored

I must say, that I am really bored this week down in Camberley. The course is, well nothing exciting really and the nights are even more boring due to the fact there are not many of us down here.

I can't wait to get back home to be honest!

If there had of been more of us down here then it would be okay, but since there is only 5 of us, and 3 of them desert us every night - there are two of us left.

Let us hope that this does not happen again. I was planning on going back up north tonight with one of the other guys and then coming back in the morning, but he's not going home tonight, so that idea is out of the window.

As for the course, well - I have learnt some things, but some of the stuff we have been doing does not really help in the learning process, but instead makes me feel tired and not interested.

Maybe these are comments I should bring up later, when they ask for our feedback. They might take more notice as well, since we are Sun internal staff.

I'm off to the country..

To party like mad tonight!

It'll be something different, since it is on the grounds of some mansion. The lineup is great, with the likes of Sasha and Digweed back to back, should be good since it is the first time they have played together for Renaissance in ten years. Not to forget all of the other DJ's, too!

Lock & load!

Driving test

Today, I boooked my driving test.

I don't think I shall tell many people when it is & hopefully have a surprise for them after I pass. We'll have to wait and see. In the mean time, more practice is needed so I do things the way they want it done. Not that their way is the best and besides, people have their own ways of doing things once the pass - both good and bad.

Wish me luck, but not for a few months yet.

Time goes quickly

This week has gone pretty quickly, since I have been doing a lot of overtime at work.
It's good that the weekend is nearly here but the downfall is that it is Easter and I'm working both bank holidays. I'll have them off another time soon and could have them off now, but I thought I'd work from 9am - 12am tomorrow.

I just think of the sound of cash registers, so it's all good.

Home sweet home

I'm back home now, have just been asleep since I got back. Time sure goes a lot quicker when you're having fun. Ended up going to The Cross last night, instead of Pacha because it was too full and they were turning people away, so will have to do that another time, was a wicked night at The Cross though!

I appear to have a cold as well now :(

Time for some more sleep I think.

Off to London

I'm off to London for this weekend, to have a nice relaxing and good time!
I might get the motivation to do things I need to do when I return.

I'll let you know how the hotel is is tomorrow probably, it's a nice 5*, with swimming pool and all the rest, so will be good.

Working nights

I'm working nights this week and next, which is okay apart from it being freezing outside and there is not much of the dark night left when I get in, but I doubt I will be woken up by the light of the day as I will be in a nice deep sleep.

At least it means I've got the days free to do things, unless I end up sleeping the entire time!

I made it!

I'm back home and after having a mad three days, it's good to sit down. Last night at Hed Kandi was quality, lots of funky tunes and plenty of people enjoying it. I came back home by car so did not have to mess around with trains which was good.

I think I'll be having an early night tonight, especially with having to get up early in the morning.

Gallery at Turnmills last night was wicked, all the way to the end at 7.15am! Then I had a mission around London today & finally went to Kent where I am now, ready to have a good night tonight at Hed Kandi, which is at The Loft in Maidstone.

Can't wait!

London, woohoo!

Even though I'm down here, I had to get just a bit of Internet access to check mail. Since I don't have a phone that can allow me to ssh and such at the moment, I've popped into Easy Everything on Tottenham Court Road.

Last night I came down here after work and went to some bars. Today I've been drinking in various pubs around Leicester Square, ready to have a great night tonight at Turnmills.

I'll be heading out of there at 7am - then either somewhere else or to Kent.

So far so good.

Off to London (again)

I'm heading down to London again tonight for the weekend. Tonight shall probably see me going out somewhere in London, not sure where yet though. I'll be staying in central London and then going to Kent tomorrow, later on tomorrow I'll be making another trip back to London to have a wicked night at Turnmills for Gallery, which ends at 7am. I should then head back to Kent, what a mission - not anywhere near as mad as some in the past but even so I think I might get bored of the trains!

I might just stay in London at a hotel until Saturday when I'll be going out in Kent, then back home early on Sunday to miss out on all the engineering work being done on the West Coast Main Line.

I'll be going to London again soon and spending all weekend there, spending a lot of money I'm sure so I could do with keeping this trip a bit cheaper, the expenses of travel will be cheaper than staying in hotels anyway. Especially since I'll be staying in the 4 star I like - only this time I don't think I will be able to get the Penthouse Suite for 79 like I did last time (I think they over booked). The usual cost of a Penthouse Suite in that hotel is 525 per night so I was lucky there.

Let the fun begin!

That time is here again

Well, I'm off again to Camberley to do yet another Sun course, Advanced System Administration on Solaris 9. It should be good, but the whole idea of keep going down there will start getting a bit annoying.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes. I know this time due to our group going on this course on different dates, we will be with different people and so the madness that has been happening on the past courses should be minimal and less alcohol should be consumed!

Paintball

I'm finally going Paintballing tomorrow, after wanting to do it for ages. Should be a good laugh - it's the birthday of one of my friends so we're going to do an all day thing there and have some fun! I think I'm the only one out of our group that has not played before but I'm sure I'll be good - Should be playing some games like Capture The Flag and other ideas from games like Quake and Counter Strike.

I'll let you know how I get on!

On another note, I'm going back to Camberley again next week to do the Solaris 9 Sysmin Administration Part 2 course. I should be set for taking the exams straight aftwards.

Never enough time

Don't you get that feeling sometimes that you just don't have enough time to do what you want / need to do? I suppose it is more of an issue on a day to day basis but some things I've been wanting to do for ages, I still have not got round to doing.

Well you know what they say about busy people - they will always find time eventually and thus can be relied upon. There are the other kind, who have enough time but just don't have any motivation.

I think I fall in between, at the moment. If work could be removed, I probably would not get everything done anyway so improvements are needed.

PDA

I've got an old Palm 3X PDA, which to be honest I have not used much. Now technology has moved on and colour displays are common, I'm thinking of getting a new one.

The Palm T3 looks very nice, but it doesn't have 802.11. Some HP Ipaq's do, but I wanted to stick with Palm. The other thing to consider is can it run Linux? Not as far as I know at present.

The Ipaq's would be better for this, but from the reviews I have checked out the Palm's have more advantages to what I'm looking for over anything else, besides no 802.11 at the moment (except on C model)& no Linux I'd go for that, but I don't like the keyboard layout - I'd rather have the method of using a stylus.

The screen on the T3 is better than most and bigger too. The only downfall really is no 802.11, but I'm sure if I wait the next lot of models will have it.

All these toys make expensive times.
On the list to get at the moment, is an iPod, new PDA, laptop and a whole host of other things.

Either way I'll probably get them from the USA, as they'll be a lot cheaper.
Damn, I had better get saving and stop wasting money!

Another long sleep

After a week of not much sleep, due to going to bed last - I have just got up after being in bed about 29 hours.

What a waste, and not needed. I think that's the longest I have been in bed.
It would be good if that long sleep enabled me to stay awake longer before being tired, but it hasn't.

Although, you can stay up when feeling tired and let it pass, after a certain period you will loose concentration and become slower and such. Maybe future developments will allow us to stay awake longer without being tired - or not sleep at all.

Sleep is a way out - so I think we all need some.

Tiredness = No learning

I've been saying all week so far that I will have an early night, but so far it has not happened. I have had about 7 hours sleep since Sunday.

Which is okay, under normal circumstances but since I am on a course it would be better if I was able to concentrate easily. Being this tired, after going to bed at 6.45am this morning and then getting up at 8.15am, it's not that easy.

I'm really looking forward to sleeping later. It's also annoying that this browser is Netscape 4.76 and does not display much correctly, so some of the stuff I wanted to post will have to wait until later.

After seeing the current sleep deprivation show on E4, I'd have been up for going on it and probably winning.

It is all down to will power as with most things and the people on there might have will power but probably have not stayed up for over 24 hours before, so it will be interesting to see how they do. On the other hand, when the money is being waved at you, I think most people would get some will power from somewhere.

Well I've slept for most of today after getting in at 8AM this morning. Hope you all had a good night, whatever you did! I'm not back in the office until 12th January, as I'm back in Camberley next week doing a Sun storage course.

So, another week of free food and plenty of drink coming up!

NYE plans

I'm still unsure about what I'm doing, which is not normal. There is so much to choose from all over the country and world. I wonder what the best way to bring this new year in would be? Something new, that's for sure.

I'll have to hurry up and think of something, as most places are going to be ticket only which will need to be purchased in advance.

What to do?!

First day in Northampton

It was my first day working in Northampton today. It went pretty well, wasn't too much trouble getting there, but it will be a lot easier when I am driving. I had more trouble on the way back as I have to wait for a bus from the station or get a taxi but that is a waste of money.

Anyway, I checked out the new office that we'll be working in from probably the middle of January. It's looking nice, the servers and everything will be arriving shortly, so at the moment it's a rush for the people involved to get it all up and running.

Since my SWAN (Sun Wide Area Network) access has not been sorted yet I'm waiting around for that. Hopefully it will be setup next week, so until then I'm going to be slightly limited in what I can do.

So far so good pretty much!

Dreaming of The Matrix

Last night I had a strange dream, in that I met up with certain people that play characters in The Matrix. It wasn't like it was the Matrix as such. All I remember is that I met the sexy Monica Belluchi (Persephone) & "The French Man".

I can't remember any other details - strange.

Still playing

We're still playing around with various hardware and configurations. It's pretty good, the only problem of being down here for this long is that it is getting boring of a night as there is nothing to do apart from drink. Which is okay, but we've been doing it now every night this week and all last week.

The other thing is that I'm not able to get much Internet access, so updates are short and I'm not getting to read all the stuff I usually keep up to date with. I'll be back home on Friday and then in Coventry for two weeks, but I'll be sleeping at home then, no need for staying in a hotel miles away!

Back in Camberley

I'm back in Camberley & I'm also not feeling too good, I think I've come down with something. I'll be looking forward to the end of the week when hopefully I'll be feeling better. I need to sort out the wireless text blogging when I get back.

I need to get a laptop, but that will have to wait.

More travel

I'm heading back to Surrey shortly, although I'm getting a lift this time so the mission won't be as bad. Although, it's going to be another 5 days of lots of food, drink and not much work.

See you on the other side...

Back home!

I'm back home now, but only until Sunday night, or very early Monday as I'll be going back to Watchmoor Park all next week for another course. My hotel bill came to 348. Multiply that by the 10 of us that were there & then by 2 to include next week and that is quite a bit of money!

Then there is the course costs, 1800 per person for the first 5 days, I'm glad I'm not paying! The course was well devised and the instructor was also good. I'm just enjoying a rest now, you would not believe how hard it is spending all day on a course, and eating 3 meals a day which all contain starter, main course and desert. Add on top of that a large amount of beers and spirits and you get one tiring week!

I enjoyed it though and the same again next week!

Beans

I think we all need to cut down on the beans during next week. As they appear to be causing increased output of gas from certain people.

I'm eating loads, I can't handle it!

All this food

I'm eating loads, enjoying all the free food. It always tastes better when it is free!

Made it back!

The night was good. Got out of Turnmills at 6am when it finished and then just chilled in a 24/7 cafe near to the club. Got one of the first trains back to Euston, but then had a mission by coach to Northampton then by train back to Birmingham International.

It would usually be a lot quicker and easier to get home, but because of the weekend work that is being done to the West Coast Main Line, most national train routes are delayed and re-routed.

I've just checked the best way to get to Surrey, it'll probably take about 2.5 hours and 3 train trips. I'm going there all week to Sun's HQ in the UK, to do some training for my new job. I am down there the week after at least, also doing training. It should be good, hotel and food is all paid for (of course). I just hope I don't get bored on the nights - I'm sure I'll sort something out though. I'll keep you posted as the days go by...

Off to London

Well, I'm about to leave to head to London. I'm going for the night, to go out on the town, heading to Turnmills for City Loud. Should be a good night. I should really stay down there after, as I've got to head back down again anyway. But I thought I would rather come home straight after, get some sleep, get all my stuff ready and then head back.

I shall explain more tomorrow, I've not got time now.

Plan went out the window

I was intending on doing some various things today, both technical stuff and non technical. But for some reason even though I went to bed quite early last night (Ok, about 1am) I stayed in bed for most of the day today, even though I did not need to.

Since I've got some trips coming up, I think I'll get some sleep now. I'll inform you about what's coming up, tomorrow...

Bleh

I drank a meduim size bottle of Vodka just now whilst out up town, but I didn't even know until after how much. I think I'm just going to sleep. I'll be back later...

I just wondered why...

I did not learn to drive sooner. I've just walked from the station and it's freezing cold, especially since it is a clear night in the sky. At least I'm learning now!

Happy birthday, to me!

It's my birthday today. I've turned 22. I wouldn't mind staying 21 though, but making the transition over to 22 has been easy. I'll enjoy it even more than 21, that is the plan anyway.

I'm sure I'll pull it off, I've increased the fun factor every year since I can remember.

Woohoo!

Time to have a mad one this weekend I think. Mind you, most of my weekends are mad anyway...

Spilt Vodka

They talk about spilt milk, but in my case this time it's spilt Vodka. I was just in the process of pouring Vodka in my glass full of cola, but I totally missed the glass and poured all over the OpenBSD box right next to the table.

Typical.

Luckily, although the box sits in a cube style case, nothing got inside and I quickly wiped it all up.

It could only happen to me!

24 hour store, not open 24/7

I just reliased, apart from the fact that I should be in bed that there is no milk left. Now, we used to have the milk man deliver it. Which in my opinion is handy, but now we don't. Why did we stop?

* We usually had too much.

Anyway, on Thursday, I did something that I wouldn't normally do. I actually went and got some milk. 6 pints in fact. But now, it has already all gone and I wanted some Weetabix or some other nice breakfast cereal.

Anyway, let me cut this to the point - which is - wait for it...

I could have gone to get more milk right now, if the stores that say they are 24 hours, were actually open. So, when is a 24 hour store (eg: Asda) not one? The answer is: On a Sunday. The good news is, shops will start opening at 6am, so I could in fact go and get some then - maybe I'll just get some sleep.

I never knew waiting for a shop to open could be so much fun.

Eating around the world

I've just been to "The Big Wok" - a chinese buffet restaurant. You pay 5 for the food and can eat as much as you like. The cost even includes deserts, the only thing you have to pay more for is the drinks. I had a little bit of everything pretty much & now I am pretty bloated! Of course, I still had room for some icecream desert. I had a nice selection of spare ribs, rice, vegetables and lots more!

Not bad for the price, the place was packed. Good food, nice prices. Next time, I might get some pictures!

The other guys with me - BJ, Dangerous & Immy all ate more than their fair share,
fat bastards - literally. I'm feeling a bit tired, maybe because of the food. Time for some sleep.

Japan & Gadgets

Jeremy Zawodny is currently on a trip in Japan, visiting the Yahoo offices. Amongst all the nice food Japan is also known for being one of the pioneers of electronics. That's one of the reasons why Japan is on my list of places to visit at some point. I'll be keeping an eye on JZ's progress and pictures! Looking at that food though makes me really in the need for some tucker!

Road Trip

I've just got round to watching Road Trip. I thought it was quite good, but not one of the best films I have watched recently. It's not a new one, but we don't get to watch every film that comes out around the time most people will watch it. There are a few that I want to watch currently on at the cinema such as Tears Of The Sun, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Bad Boys 2 & Kill Bill as well as a list of older films to make my way through. Recently I've seen Bad Boys, Confidence, Agent Cody Banks, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Phone Booth, Catch Me If You Can, Anger Management, The Matrix Reloaded and American Wedding.

Of course there is always going to be something new to watch that I've not yet seen, so it'll be an ongoing and never complete project!

The question is, what to watch next?

Beer Monster

I'm not much of a drinker (well of beers anyway) due to the fact I don't like the taste of beer, even though it is an aquired taste some might say, I think I would have started to like it by now. I'm more of a Vodka man, and anything else none beer.

I went out last night and ended up drinking quite a bit, got home about 1.45am, got to sleep after 2.30am at least and then woke up at 5.30am and could not sleep again, which is annoying. Anyway, it's good in that I should get back to a more normal sleeping pattern tonight. I'm feeling okay but just a bit dehydrated. When I end up feeling like rubbish I usually say "I'm not going to do (insert crazy mind altering substance here) again. Alas, I normally do.

Anyway, I could go on all day talking about nothing in particular really, but I'll save it. Everything that I discuss is purely hyperthetical fiction, due to the fact I don't know who might read my thoughts, especially employers and such.

It's so cold and dull out, what am I going to do to warm things up a bit?

Still messed up

Well, my sleep patterns are still messed up. I'm going to have to try and get back to normal. Easier said than done sometimes!

Mission Impossible

That is what I think I shall call my latest adventure. It goes like this. I was meant to be going down to London today, to sort some things out & open a new bank account. I stayed up all night as I could not sleep (sleeping pattern is messed up at the moment). Anyway, that was okay - off I headed to London. Damn, after buying the ticket, I found that I had taken no ID with me, so I'd have to go back home anyway - another problem, I didn't have keys to get in.

Either way, I was out of luck. To top it all off, Ben informed me the account stuff could be done online and finished off by going to a local branch. I got my money back on the train ticket (minus 5) and headed home, managed to get hold of a key and got in.

Now I'm feeling tired, so will probably sleep soon!

Still Awake!

I'm still up, which is nothing too extreme. The longest I have stayed up for before is 56 hours, if I remember right. Damn, did I appreciate my bed when I finally got in it!

I've just been busy reading and downloading stuff. Music and such like. Suppose I should get some sleep, else I will be in bed all day afterall!

Saturday, September 27, 2003

Sleep Patterns

Mine appears to be all out of place at the moment. I went to bed at 5.30am this morning and got up about 3pm. Not sure what time I'll get to bed tonight (well, tomorrow morning).

I'll try not to stay in bed all day though!

Women

I know we can't live with or without them but...

Are we ever meant to understand them & the ways in which they operate? I'd love to know.

Crazy Clubbers - Clubbing gallery & more!

Since moving my clubbing site Crazy Clubbers over to a new server, I've not got round to making certain things on the site work again. So I think that is something for me to work on this weekend. If you're a clubber, be sure to check it out!

I really need to update the gallery with new pics, I've got loads to add, but I have not got round to updating the gallery. Once I get Image Folio or some other gallery system in place, it will make my job of updating it a lot easier. Also, check out the forums, feel free to talk shit about anything you want! :-)

No sleep

Damn, I need some sleep. I went out last night after work and got home at 2.30am but did not go to sleep. Instead I stayed up and then went to work.

I think I'll sleep well tonight.

I'm drunk

But not that bad, as I can still spell.
It's probably not a good idea though, using the computer and making posts when intoxicated in any way, shape or form. I think I'll refrain from going near computers after drinking especially!

Time to sleep.

How many miles?

I was thinking today. A dangerous thing for me to do! Anyway, after going to Ibiza, Madrid, Barcelona, Essex, as well as London (4 times) in the past 10 days, it made me wonder just how many miles I have travelled. Most of it being clocked up on flights over 3 days, the rest from trains!

Anyone like to take a guess? Maybe I should calculate it after obtaining the required data!

Wednesday, August 13, 2003

Errr

Sorry about the lack of recent updates, I've had a mad mission the past few days. Friday I headed off to Ibiza until Monday. Instead of getting a direct flight, I thought I'd do something different, so I went down by train to London Euston from Birmingham New Street, then got the tube to Victoria & finally got on the Gatwick Express to Gatwick Airport.

We stayed in a B&B ovetr night, then got the British Airways flight to Madrid. From there we got another flight to Ibiza...Mission! Around 20 hours travel from the time of leaving my house to getting to Ibiza.

It was a wicked weekend, even though it did go really quick. Had a nice air conditioned room at Hotel Marfil & an air conditioned car. We needed the air con, it was 35+ degrees every day, one day I noticed it was over 40! As I was only there for a short time on this trip, I only managed to visit Space, Eden & Pacha, as well as the Radio 1 events. I've spent just over 5 weeks on the island since I first went in September 2001, and I've still got loads of things I want to do there! I'll be going back again soon!

On the way back, we left our passports at the hotel, so had to go back. We then missed our flight back to Madrid. Which wasn't so bad as we didn't have to pay for another one, but we did have to fly to Barcelona instead, then get a flight back to the UK from there! Once back in the UK I had a mad mission back to Birmingham... 12 hours non stop travel.

It was all worth it, the only thing I am annoyed about is that I left my phone on the flight from Ibiza to Barcelona and even though I realised literally about 3 minutes after getting off the plane, they said they could not find it. So maybe someone took it...I was one of the last people to get off the flight though!

I have been trying to get hold of the arrivals desk for Iberia as the number I was given just seems to be constantly engaged, I want to find out if it has been handed in as I've lost all my numbers (can't find the list I'm sure I had) and I've lost the pictures on the phone too :(

I've got a new one now and barred the other one! Annoying as well that I didn't have insurance to cover it, as the trip was so short I did not bother getting any, so I've paid another 100 for a new Sharp GX10I. I can recover numbers over time, but I'll make sure I keep the list somewhere! Most of the pictures I've lost though unless other people have them on their phones, but a lot were just on mine and can't be replaced. Oh well! I'll just have to build up another collection! Or maybe I'll get the phone back? There is always hope.

Global Gathering

Well, today is the 3rd Global Gathering. I'm well looking forward to it. The only problem this time is that most people I'd go with, are not going. There will be loads of other people I know that I'll see there as is always the case with the big clubbing events. The problem is people don't want to pay! But neither do I.

Hopefully, I'll persuade some to go!

UPDATE: Well, people let me down and didn't want to go.. although I could have still gone with others, I summed it all up and thought as the weather is going to be crap, I'll pass this time...It would not have compared to last year or the first one! Still got Creamfields left! Next year, all over again.. and more!

Time off work

Jeremy Zawodny posted today about company policies & procedures...Some are good, some are bad.. but when you put ideas forward on how to improve things, your ideas are never implemented even if they ARE better ways of doing things.

Which made me think how nice it is when you have time off work, especially when you don't like working for the company. It's always better to work somewhere you like, doing a job you like.. right?!

I just decided yesterday that I needed some time off, so booked off the rest of this week and next Monday, which means that I've got some nice time to chill, etc. I've been busy the past few days (as we all are) so have not made any updates. Ben has made some nice small changes to the design of his blog, go check them out.

Work Experience

So.. you've got skill. You have skills which are appropriate for jobs you're applying for? Good start. Would you class your skills as commercial experience or personal? Both? It's worth noting that some compoanies will want commercial experience only ...hmm you say... but I know exactly what to do and how to do it.. but because my experience is "personal" you don't want to get me an interview or consider me? What about certification? Will you still want commercial experience if I'm CERTIFIED as having some degree of skill?

Some agencies need to employ better staff that have some sort of clue about the types of staff they are recruiting for!

Work...

Like Ali-G stated, people banging on about the right to work...what about the right NOT to work? I don't mind work really, but I do mind the place I currently work at... it's a SHIT HOLE. Why? you may ask.. well... where do I start... the only good thing about going in of a morning, is going home later. And what if someone stumbles over this page from looking over the websweeper logs? What do I say to that??? Hows about BOLLOX. Sorry for the rant, but I need out. Which is probably why I spend most of my time applying for appropriate jobs all day and reading books... ahhh... It's not so bad. Rant Over.
