Today I was in the process of burning a cd. Ok, quite a common thing to do these days. Correct. It was however, a data cd, so I set about burning it at 48X... so far so good. Burnt fine, cd image copied to cd and all is good.
Or so it seemed.
Soon after I decided to burn another mpeg file, at a slower 12X (I usually use this speed for all burn jobs). Anyway, the writer started making some wierd sounds...great! Try again, same! Damn. Well, although the writer still appears to work, it makes very odd sounds, like there is something stuck inside. Annoying when the drive is only 3 months old, like the rest of this box.
My point is hardware can never (die) at the correct time and instead of giving some warning, it just happens all in one go, but it still works you say?! True, but for how long? I'm going to replace it now & probably get a DVD writer too.
